We had a great time today exploring Roxborough State Park. The hike started in a forested area where we found a ton of tent caterpillar nests. We learned that these are the caterpillars that turn into the moths that plague us all summer. The nests look like cotton balls stretched between branches full of small twitching caterpillars. The older scouts used the trail map to make sure we stayed on the path. Some of the other highlights include seeing a hawk carrying a snake in its talons flying overhead, looking at the wildflowers (including columbines), eating Mr. Wheeler’s twizzlers during a break, and seeing a rock that looked like the scout sign.
